This was a major renovation of a 1990’s brick and tile house in Brookby. The brief was to redesign spaces in the existing house into a contemporary space that defined modern and relaxed living. The client wished to instil a sense of openness, with good cross-ventilation that enabled the house to retain warmth in winter and stay cool in summer.
The original layout of the house presented a quite a design challenge; The main entrance was hidden from view at the rear of the house, there was a change in floor levels, and an unusual boomerang shaped floor plan. The existing house also did not make the most of the sun and the views of the surrounding countryside. These issues were quickly identified as providing the basis for a design advantage.
The main entry was relocated to a more desirable front yard location and now presents itself to guests entering the property. A new large living area creates seamless flow between the front and rear yards ensuring either can be used depending on the weather conditions.
A new formal lounge area, with steps wrapping around a feature wall and shelf unit, now makes excellent use of the change in floor level. The new living and formal lounge areas now offer panoramic views of the countryside scenery through new double glazed windows & doors.
